Trademark Registration in Pakistan

  • Government fees disclosed upfront
  • Free first consultation
  • Filed and followed up by our team

A trademark is what stops someone else from legally using your business name, logo, or slogan once you've built a reputation around it. In Pakistan, that protection comes from registering with IPO-Pakistan's Trademarks Registry, not from simply using the name first. If you haven't registered it, you're in a much weaker legal position if someone else does.

We handle the trademark search, the application filing on Form TM-1 or TM-2, and the follow-up through examination and publication. You're not the one tracking a case file through a government portal for the better part of a year.

Trademark registration is one part of intellectual property registration in Pakistan, alongside copyright and patents, but it's the part that matters most for brand protection day to day. A registered wordmark protects your business name as text; a registered device mark protects the logo itself. Many growing businesses eventually register both, since a competitor copying your logo but slightly altering the name (or vice versa) can otherwise slip through if only one is protected.

Who needs this
  • Brand owners and startups who've picked a name and don't want to rebuild it later
  • Businesses that have completed company registration in Pakistan and now want the brand itself protected
  • Anyone who's had a logo or name copied and needs a registered mark to act on it
  • Exporters whose brand identity matters to international buyers
Documents Required

What you'll need

  • A clear representation of the mark (logo file or the exact wordmark)
  • Applicant details: individual or the registered company
  • The class of goods/services the mark covers (Nice Classification)
  • Proof of use, if the mark is already in commercial use
  • A signed Power of Attorney (Form TM-48), since we're filing on your behalf
Fees & Timeline

What this costs

Government filing fees are charged per class of goods or services and confirmed at the time of filing, since IPO-Pakistan's fee schedule can change. The full process from search through certification typically takes 12–18 months depending on objections or opposition. That timeline is normal and not a sign anything went wrong with your application.

The government fee is charged per Nice Classification, so a mark filed in one class costs less than the same mark filed across five. Our service fee covers the search, the TM-1 or TM-2 filing, and every follow-up through to certification, quoted as one flat number before we file anything.

  • Government fee: billed per class of goods or services, confirmed with IPO-Pakistan before filing
  • Our service fee: one flat number covering search, filing, and follow-up through certification
  • Extra classes add government fee but not extra service fee, since the filing work barely changes
Process

How it works

STEP 01

Trademark Search

We search IPO-Pakistan's register to check your mark isn't already taken or confusingly similar to an existing one.

STEP 02

Application Filing

We prepare and file your TM-1/TM-2 application with the correct class and representation of the mark.

STEP 03

Examination & Publication

IPO-Pakistan examines the application. If accepted, it's published in the Trademarks Journal for opposition.

STEP 04

Certification

If unopposed, your trademark is registered for 10 years, renewable indefinitely.

Common Mistakes

Mistakes to avoid

  • Filing without a proper search first, then getting opposed months later by a near-identical existing mark that a search would have caught.
  • Picking the wrong Nice Classification, which protects the wrong category of goods or services entirely.
  • Submitting an inconsistent logo file (different colors, proportions, or wording) from what's actually used on packaging or the website.
  • Filing through an agent without a signed Form TM-48 Power of Attorney, which can stall the application before it's even examined.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Fees are charged per class of goods/services with IPO-Pakistan, plus our service fee for search, filing, and follow-up. We confirm an exact quote once we know how many classes your mark needs to cover.

Typically 12–18 months from filing to certification, mainly due to the mandatory publication and opposition period. This is standard across all applications, not specific to any one filer.

Yes, a word mark (the name) and a device mark (the logo) can be registered separately, and many businesses register both for fuller protection.

You'll be notified and given the opportunity to file a counter-statement. We handle that response on your behalf if it happens.

Yes, registration lasts 10 years and is renewable indefinitely. We can flag your renewal date so it doesn't lapse.

A trademark protects brand identifiers, names, logos, slogans, used in commerce. Copyright protects original creative works like written content, designs, or software code. They're filed with different bodies and protect different things.

Using ™ to indicate you're claiming a mark is generally fine while an application is pending, but the ® symbol should only be used once IPO-Pakistan has actually granted registration.

If they registered first, they generally have the stronger legal position even if you used the name earlier in practice. This is exactly why registering sooner rather than later matters, and we can advise on options if this applies to you.
